Are you looking for new members?
Yes! Any resident of the town is highly encouraged to join.
Residents of surrounding communities are also encouraged to apply if they
live within a reasonable response area.
What do I need to do to join?
The application process requires you to fill out a membership application including some personal information, references, health history, etc. You are highly urged to fill out this application during a regular monthly meeting where you can meet the other firefighters and listen to a typical meeting. You will also be given a tour of the station and be presented with the general rules and any special information you may need. Following this, the board of directors will meet to discuss your application and check references
as well as perform a state background check. At the next regular meeting, which you are also urged to attend, the general membership will vote on your application. Assuming you are approved, you will then become a probationary member of the department. Probationary status and rules will be explained to you when you apply so you are fully aware of the limitations placed on you.
What are the training requirements?
No requirement is made to join the department, however, in order to perform certain functions, training is required. We hold department training
several times each month (attendance of one per month is requested). State certification is required for those members who wish to perform an active role (mutual aid, interior attacks, driver/operator, etc).
When do you meet?
Meetings are held monthly on the third Thursday of each month starting at 7:30pm. The public is welcome, so please stop in if you are interested. We also hold training on the
first, second, and fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm... please feel free to stop by and watch.
What if I don't like it?
No problem. There is no time commitment placed on you, unless you take an outside training course. Usually, the first class you would take is a state certification class. This class costs the department several hundred dollars to send you to. If you sign up for the class we ask that you commit to at least one year's service to the department, or reimburse us for the cost of your training. The important thing to remember is that this is a volunteer organization, you will *not* be forced to do anything you are not comfortable with. For example, if you have a fear of heights, you will not be forced to climb ladders, if you have have claustrophobia, we will not place you in small quarters. There are several roles that you can fill without feeling uncomfortable or being placed in danger.
